Canton Roy, lac des sables (2026)

Canton Roy, lac des sables depicts five regatta sailboats with dark sails, their race numbers rendered in vivid blue, gathered along a line of flat turquoise water. The sky occupies two-thirds of the canvas and unfolds in vertical flat areas of red, carmine, and orange, applied with a direct gestural quality that creates a luminous tension between the ground and the silhouettes. The palette, resolutely non-naturalistic, evokes the intensity of a suspended moment rather than a faithful description of the landscape. The work suits contemporary interiors that can accommodate strong colour, and appeals to collectors drawn to synthetic figuration and nautical subjects handled with a deliberate economy of means.
