"The Sweetness of the Canvas: Sunset" "Sunset" is a work rooted in the body’s memory—the kind we believe is lost until the day it resurfaces, intact, carried by a familiar light. In this painting, I’ve evoked childhood as a sacred space: that balcony in Abidjan, a sun slowly setting, and a little girl—me—who refuses to miss this daily rendezvous with the sky. There is in this repeated gesture a form of instinctive ritual—a silent communion with the beauty of the world before the world becomes too complex. Then comes the rupture. Montreal. The rhythm of adult life. And this habit swallowed up without ceremony, without realizing what we are letting go of. *Sunset* is a painting of reclaiming that connection. Ten minutes stolen from the daily grind to rediscover the thread—thin but tenacious—that links the woman I’ve become to the little girl I’ve never stopped being. The work is not about passive nostalgia. It’s about the deliberate act of remembering what nourishes us. Of choosing, again and again, to return to myself, to one’s true self: the choice to ground the soul.
