Achluophobia is the clinical term for the fear of the dark, and I used it to create an intimate map of the journey from nocturnal terror to rediscovered peace. This painting emerged from a period of absolute vulnerability—a time when night ceases to be a refuge and becomes an echo chamber: anxiety, depression, social pressure—everything that the bustle of the day keeps at bay settles into the silence of the bed with relentless precision. Darkness is no longer the absence of light. It is the presence of everything we have not yet resolved. But *Achluophobia* does not document collapse. It documents the turning point. That quiet, decisive moment when we choose to stop fighting against what we cannot control. Where we come to understand that struggling against our own lack of strength is the most exhausting form of struggle. Where we finally grant ourselves the permission—radical and necessary—to lay down our arms. In the tradition of works that heal as much as they bear witness, Achluophobia is addressed to all those who have confused rest with defeat. It reminds us, with the gentle firmness of those who know, that survival sometimes comes down to the simple act of closing one’s eyes.
