There is a peculiar sense of disorientation in being perceived differently from how one experiences oneself. In filling a room with confidence while, somewhere deep inside, a voice whispers that perhaps one shouldn’t have entered it and that one probably doesn’t belong there. *The Impostor* documents this disorientation with a honesty that is certainly unsettling, yet liberating. In it, I explore my imposter syndrome—not as an individual vulnerability, but as an imposed collective construct. For a Black woman navigating between two cultures, two continents, and two value systems, the question of legitimacy simply never arises... It arises in a space saturated with contradictory demands—too much of this for one, not enough of that for the other, never quite fitting into any of the molds held out to her. What my brush has sought to capture in this work is the silent violence of intersectionality as experienced from within. Not as an academic concept, but as a daily experience of the body and identity—that of a woman raised between Abidjan and Montreal, who does not recognize herself in any of the three boxes to which Black women are all too often reduced. And yet she enters the room anyway. *The Impostor* is perhaps my most courageous painting—the one in which I depict not what I have overcome, but what I am still going through. That inner tremor that no one sees, and that I choose to make visible.
