This Family Portrait was specially commissioned from an old photograph that is a historical family relic, and the person wanted to transform this family keepsake into a Work of Art. The client wanted to have this Family Portrait made as a memorable gift for their parents on the jubilee anniversary of their Marriage. I worked on this commission during the summer of 2025, creating the drawing using professional materials (a special drawing paper sheet and Faber-Castell pencils). I rendered the background through hatching and then paid attention to the individual characteristics of each person. The composition of this Family Portrait is built around a harmonious balance between the figures, showing their physical closeness, which creates a sense of unity and family connection. The arrangement of the figures side by side as shown in the photo, guides the viewer's eye toward the facial expressions, which become the emotional centre of the Artwork. Through the traditional technique of pencil drawing, I aimed to portray the individuality of each person, capturing their natural expressions, their gaze, and their distinctive characteristics. Through different intensities of hatching, I rendered depth, volume, and a realistic atmosphere. I paid particular attention to the rendering of textures and the structure of the materials — especially the elements of the clothing and their reflections in order to highlight the differences between the surfaces and give the Artwork a tactile expressiveness. Through the subtle tones, I preserved the authenticity and aged character of this moment, as well as the light and shadow, while at the same time aiming to preserve the authenticity of the original photograph and the atmosphere specific to the family moment represented. This Artwork is an authentic original creation — 100% HAND-DRAWN (Never AI-generated, digitally created, or printed), personally drawn by me using traditional fine art techniques acquired through many years of experience. Through this hand-drawn Family Portrait of four people, I captured the facial expressions of each member of this family from long ago, portraying them as they were at that particular time — bringing emotional and artistic value to a large-scale hand-drawn Artwork while preserving the imprint of my personal style. After I had completed the work and the drawing had reached its final stage, I mounted the sheet onto a white DeSerres plastic board so that the paper would have proper support and would not bend. The client collected the commissioned Artwork from our studio in LaSalle, and afterwards the Portrait was framed with a passe-partout and placed under glass. I am happy and grateful that I was able to draw a precious memory of this family and preserve that historical moment in a Work of Art that will remain through time.
