An American Story

With a shell that acts as a natural shield, it represents the ability to protect oneself from the outside world and establish barriers, while also knowing when to open up and grow. It is a rather intriguing contradiction, given that it is the official state animal of Texas—a state that was once independent, and a conservative one at that, yet defined by a blend of cultures, influences, and ideologies. This piece speaks to the theme of transmission—of what we carry unseen, and what we hold onto even when the memory has faded. It depicts three generations and three stories traveling together without ever truly touching—much like family members who each carry their own solitude, yet also their own dreams.
