Since I was a kid, I have been drawn to fear. Not as spectacle but as the most honest feeling I know. Horror, folklore, and occult imagery were never escapes for me, they were the only places that told the truth about what living inside my own head actually feels like. Painting functions as containment. Most of my work portrays darkness, grief, fear and sadness because that is what I kept enclosed inside my head all those years. What I put on canvas is nothing more than what wished it could have been said, and never was. Sometimes I begin a painting with a meaning already in mind. As the work develops it shifts. Sometimes it holds, sometimes the meaning only reveals itself when I look at the finished piece. I share what I believe each work means through its title alone. The rest I leave open. That way others can find their own meaning inside it. If a work is left Untitled, not even I can explain what I feel when I look at it.
