Drowning Man

Drowning Man is part of my ongoing series My Little Blue Era, in which I use blue as both an emotional and psychological space. The figure, suspended between submersion and emergence, exists in a state of quiet tension—neither fully drowning nor able to surface. I am drawn to figures that resist idealization. Through distortion and discomfort, they become vessels for unresolved emotions—anxiety, pressure, and a sense of being held in place. In painting this figure, I am not depicting a specific person, but constructing a condition: a body that carries what cannot be easily expressed.
