"Olde Country"

Which one will posses you tonight? the same cast of household characters—bottles, glasses, fruit, a wayward bird—because ordinary objects are very good at telling stories if you let them. What excites me is the little drama of domestic life: the quiet competitiveness of tableware, the small consolation of a poured drink, the way simple things hold memory and mood. I aim to present these moments with a wink and a clear eye. Humor keeps the work honest; empathy gives it weight. I want viewers to laugh and then recognize something private about their own routines. I make work fast at first and deliberate later. I sketch until a composition sits, block in areas of color, then define forms with strong black contours and confident brushwork. I keep the marks that reveal the making—smudges, overpaint, quick corrections—because they read as personality. Repetition of motifs and a restrained approach to color create a kind of visual shorthand that readers quickly learn to decode.
