Transcender

At the outset, this work was born from a strong desire: to free myself from a dense, solid space that held me almost captive to a heavy past event, one that had already taken up too much space. I chose mainly shades of red and prepared my mixtures. With a broad, forceful gesture, I moved them in every direction. I incorporated red sand collected on Prince Edward Island. I layered thin coats. I made removals. I stepped back. I looked. I searched for a way out. Then I let go. My movement became more peaceful, the colors softer. The mass dissolved and became fluid. I sensed the whisper of light entering. It did not impose itself. It flowed and mingled with the earth. It revealed its secret. It reminds me to accept. To accept what is. To accept my own liberation.
