Arabesque

The story of this work began in 2019–2020. Blue and green mountains and valleys gradually took shape on a canvas that spoke very little to me. Then, in 2022, I spontaneously chose the boldness and joy of making it into a new experience, without any idea in mind, keeping only the existing color palette. I unify the background in the upper part. I prepare very fluid mixtures, mostly blues with a little green. I loosely wet the shape that inspires me, then pour and disperse the mixtures over it, without precision. The colors literally float and move like a large puddle of colored water across the canvas laid completely flat. I leave the studio and let everything dry and organize itself, without control, without expectations, for several days. When I return, it is a true surprise. Total excitement. Magic! The colors have gathered and condensed at the very top, drawing this magnificent arabesque line. I will not return to this part of the painting. I continue the work in the direction it has revealed to me.
