Out at sea, the Light

So here is the second painting inspired by the few days I spent at Le Bic, standing before the majestic St. Lawrence River. Standing before the vastness of the river, I found myself at its feet, on the rocks and escarpments, with the feeling that I was at its height, able to glide across its waters, able to take flight with the birds that seemed to invite me. This time, part of me was detached from the outcome, in a state of no expectations. Without concerning myself with composition, I began to paint. Its sky already fascinated me and occupied almost the entire upper half of the canvas, with little regard for the lower part… The light revealed itself through thin layers and delicate nuances, and intoxicated me. Then I subtly played with greens and slightly oblique movements across the water, which received and reflected all this light. I had the feeling that the river was breathing within me, that its powerful, continuous movement was soothing me. And I let myself be carried by it, within me. A connection. At last, I felt the power of the river and the sky within my inner earth. Intuitively, I anchored this power in the textured materials in the lower part of the painting, bringing stability, a sense of balance into my feet, into my body. Then I returned to the first painting to breathe in its silence.
