THE ROCK

In *The Rock*, the universe is ancient, a burnt ochre, a deep brown, and stellar rust. Not the cold, blue cosmos of modern telescopes, but something more primitive, more earthy—as if we were looking at a galaxy through the eyes of the first creature to raise its head toward the sky. A column of white and golden light cuts through the composition from the center downward—the fossilized Milky Way, a stream of iridescent specks that shimmer depending on the angle of view, alive in their stillness. Reddish-brown masses float all around like asteroids, wandering rocks, debris from a world that did not survive its own formation. In the upper right, a yellow-green planet encased in epoxy resin dominates the scene. A mineral and mysterious world, a patchwork of colors like a map of unexplored territory. It is dense, solid, real. It is The Rock—a raw material before any poetry. In the lower left, a silvery-gray crystalline fragment rests like a meteorite placed there by chance—or by fate. Too precise to be accidental. The double frame—earth-red on the inside, solar-yellow on the outside—warms the composition like a sunset on a planet without an atmosphere. “The Rock” speaks to what endures. To the rugged beauty of raw material before it is given a name, before a use is found for it. It is simply there, massive and magnificent.
