MERCURY SUNSET

In *Mercury Sunset*, the sun occupies nearly the entire canvas—not as a threat, but as an absolute, all-encompassing presence that is impossible to ignore. Golden yellow at the edges, it blends toward the center into soft oranges, peachy pinks, and luminous whites, as if its surface were breathing, as if we could see its heart beating from space. This sun is not perfect. Dark veins run through it—organic black filaments that resemble roots or cracks in the light. Spots, internal clouds, and shadowed areas serve as a reminder that even the brightest star carries its own storms within. All around, splashes of golden-yellow paint explode toward the black background like solar prominences—jets of plasma frozen in their momentum, the solar corona captured at the moment of its greatest intensity. And in the lower right, tiny, almost humble: Mercury. The planet closest to the sun, encased in epoxy resin, gray and cratered, so small in the face of the immensity of the star that governs it. Yet it holds its ground. It orbits. It withstands the heat simply by remaining itself. “Mercury Sunset” is a meditation on excess and proximity. On what it means to live in the shadow of a light that is too bright and to keep turning nonetheless.
