Tree of Becoming: The First Light

Before there was direction, there was only the courage to stand where light first touched the earth. Tree of Becoming: The First Light marks the opening movement in Christopher Lee Chang’s ongoing Tree of Becoming cycle. Set within a luminous mythic landscape, the solitary tree rises above a spiral embedded in the hillside, suggesting that growth begins beneath perception before becoming visible in the world. Neither landscape nor symbol alone, the work invites contemplation of becoming as a lifelong movement toward greater presence, rootedness, and light.
