"I'm Sorry" explores lip-reading, emphasizing the relationship between mouth movements and speech. Using oil paint on a 6 ft by 1 ft canvas, this piece presents a sequence of frames focusing on the movement of the mouth as it forms the common phrase “I’m Sorry”. I believe that human communication is not only auditory but also visual, as individuals, like myself, often shift their focus to lip movements to enhance their comprehension of the speech. My interest in this subject stems from my personal experience with auditory delays, leading me to study lip movement to better understand speech. I am interested in how communication extends beyond auditory signals and how analyzing mouth movements becomes a method of listening. Through repetition, my work investigates speech-reading, exploring human communication through a visual lens.
