Perfectly Imperfect: Viridian

"Perfectly Imperfect" is a series of three paintings that explores the beauty of imperfections through the universal gesture of a smile. Each piece captures a unique, imperfect bite, celebrating the individuality that defines us as human beings. When I began this series, I wanted to depict the natural, spontaneous smiles of various people at different stages of their lives, in order to explore both our differences and our shared humanity. Although every smile is unique, it is something we all share, which is a simple yet powerful expression that connects us. I firmly believe that the simple act of smiling reveals a glimpse of who we are. Whether perfectly aligned or beautifully imperfect, our smiles express us in ways words cannot. In "Veridian," it captures a set of teeth that has a front gap. When working out this series, I knew I needed to incorporate a gap, as I grew up with a large gap that never went unnoticed. Instead of being insecure about it, I embraced it and never let it deter me. "Veridian" captures the confidence that my gap eventually gave me and allowed me to be my true, authentic self with my organic and unique smile.
