The Missing Lighthouse Keeper Since the beginning of the last century, the Nicolet River Lighthouse had stood guard at the mouth of Lake Saint-Pierre, where the river meets the St. Lawrence. Its distinctive silhouette was part of the landscape—a reassuring landmark for local residents and a living memory of the place. One day in March, battered by ice, it collapsed, swept away by the ice break-up. All that remains today is its base—and the memory of a lighthouse keeper who, though gone, continues to inhabit the landscape.
