"My Anxiety Monster" is a vibrant artwork that illustrates the personification of the artist’s inner struggle against anxiety. The overabundance of colour and pattern gives the viewer a sense of overwhelm and overstimulation, which pairs well with the imagery of anxiety. On first glance the figure representing the artist on the right appears to be calm, but is merely being trapped and subdued in the web of greasy hair and fat from the body of the anxiety monster character. This piece reflects Kessem’s lived experiences with neurodivergence and mental health.
