Mural by Opire

This work brings together a street-art vocabulary and a urban approach. Its value does not come from applying decoration to architecture: the mural gains meaning through its scale, its surface and the way it is encountered in a real place.

Since 2012, his interventions on Montreal’s walls have reflected a relationship with art rooted in raw emotion and uncalculated authenticity. "Painting things that move me." Active since 2012, Opire has developed a mural practice anchored in the core values ​​of graffiti culture: authentic expression, crew camaraderie, and the sheer pleasure of leaving a mark. His most memorable piece—a massive dumpster wall behind "Les Foufs" painted with the 203 crew—perfectly illustrates the ephemeral, intimate nature of graffiti, which exists primarily for those who painted and experienced it. This lack of documentation is intentional—perhaps even a statement in itself. In a milieu where an Instagram photo is often as important as the artwork, Opire reminds us that some practices exist beyond the public gaze, for their own sake, within the pure present moment of the act and the gathering of friends.
