Ankh One, a mural practice rooted in place
This work brings together a street-art vocabulary and a urban approach. Its value does not come from applying decoration to architecture: the mural gains meaning through its scale, its surface and the way it is encountered in a real place.
Ankh’s artistic journey began in the early 1990s, when he started painting graffiti on the walls of his hometown of Grenoble, at the foot of the Alps. His passion for this form of expression led him to study graphic design, where he honed his skills in painting and illustration while staying true to the graffiti culture that inspired him. His work reflects marked versatility: he seamlessly blends painting, graphic design, and illustration to create what he calls “poetry in motion.” In 2001, he joined the Parisian collective 9e Concept, then went on to work as a freelancer. He also served as art director for Graff-It magazine, Ashop Crew, and Tyxna. A perfectionist at heart, Ankh is committed to producing high-quality work with meticulous attention to detail, whether on canvas or in professional settings. In 2013, he moved to Montreal, where he continues to reside and to create works that captivate audiences around the world.
Ankh One, whose practice is connected with Grenoble, develops a visual world that can be followed from one wall to another. Captions and archives connected to this body of work document interventions at Ottawa. These points of reference place the image within a practice rather than treating it as an isolated visual.
