VIP collector benefits: 7 perks that build loyalty
In 30 seconds
A discount is the worst possible VIP benefit: it devalues your prices and attracts bargain hunters. The 7 benefits that truly build loyalty in 2026: early access to new works (24-72h before the public), private studio visits, right to reserve a work in production, exclusive event invitations, personalized certificates of authenticity, personal hanging assistance, and priority access to commissions.
Why discounts are the enemy of loyalty
Many artists ask me: 'Should I offer a 10 or 20% discount to my loyal collectors?' The answer is no. Here's why.
First, a discount permanently devalues your prices. Once a collector has paid $1,600 instead of $2,000, their psychological anchor becomes $1,600. What will you ask them for next time?
Second, discounts change your buyer profile. You attract bargain hunters at the expense of collectors motivated by connection or support. Lastly, a discount is what every commercial gallery offers. True VIP benefits are what set you apart.
The 7 benefits that truly build loyalty
1. Early access to new works (24-72h before the public)
The most powerful. Before launch, email VIPs 24-72h prior. Sense of exclusivity, FOMO. On loriginal, 30 to 50% of works are reserved in presale this way.
2. Private studio visits (1-2 times a year per collector)
Invite a collector to your studio for 1 to 2 hours. The collector sees the context, asks questions. Physical intimacy regains all its value.
3. Right to reserve a work in production
Very high-end benefit. A VIP can reserve a work right from the sketch (20-30% deposit). Attracts serious collectors (motivations 2 and 5).
4. Invitations to exclusive collector events
Studio dinner, private opening, guided tour. Generates cross-pollination among your collectors and 3-5 sales within 60 days.
5. Personalized and numbered certificates of authenticity
Enhanced certificate: global numbering, HQ photos, personalized text, handwritten signature. Huge symbolic effect.
6. Personal assistance with hanging and preservation
Home visit, personalized video, or custom PDF. The collector feels taken care of.
7. Priority access to custom commissions
Your VIPs get access to a priority slot every quarter, with shortened lead times.
How to define who is VIP and the dashboard
Criteria: They bought at least 2 works, OR a major work, OR referred at least 1 new collector. Keep the program small: 20-40 people maximum.
Track in your management tool:
- List of VIPs with entry date
- Benefits used by each VIP
- Purchases generated post-VIP status
- Referrals brought by each VIP
The 3 mistakes that destroy a VIP program
- Mistake 1, expanding too much. If you make 150 people VIP 'not to offend', the status loses all value. Keep it small and exclusive.
- Mistake 2, forgetting the benefits. Promising benefits and failing to execute them for 8 months destroys the relationship.
- Mistake 3, mixing discounts and VIP programs. If you add a 10% discount to VIPs 'on top', you fall back into the initial trap.

FAQ
When should you start a VIP program?
When you have at least 5-10 recurring collectors. Below that, your 'program' is naturally managed through individual personal relationships.
Should you publicly communicate the existence of the VIP program?
Discreetly, yes. Mention in your FAQ that you have a privileged program for loyal collectors. Do not promote it aggressively.
How does a new collector enter the program?
No request possible, by invitation only after their 2nd purchase or significant gesture.
