Steven Rose began his artistic journey with art classes in high school. He joined the LAPD as an officer in his early 20s, working the streets and Community Relations for most of his career. Later, he conceived an idea to promote traffic safety for the Department by painting freeway murals. The Department supported his idea and allowed him to paint three large murals on the Los Angeles freeways: Buckle Up!, Designate a Driver, and DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). These murals stood tall and lasted about 15 years before being destroyed by vandalism and subsequently removed by the State ...
