“November Rush's surreal work has a distinctive lush, iridescent palette, and she seeks the dreamy intersection of the uncomfortable and the romantic.”

Muralist · Montreal, Canada
As an oil painter, he focuses on representational subject matter, such as still life, animals, or portraiture, with a haunting surreal twist and an unusual color palette. He explores and perfects a technique to depict iridescent or holographic materials, which infuses his work with a muted rainbow quality that is both grey and multicolour at the same time. His paintings examine the friction between romance and horror, creating a sense of beauty, unease, and the surreal. They explore the beauty of a pastel-rainbow palette intersecting with the discomfort of the physically impossible, the unexplainable, and the macabre. It is at this point of balance—a juxtaposition between romance and horror, comfort and discomfort—that he aims to create a sense of the dream-like and the liminal. His work is inspired by contemporary surrealist Canadian painters like Kieta Morimoto, Maude Corriveau, and Megan Ellen McDonald (a mentor of his), who share his background in applied arts like illustration and animation. He also draws inspiration from East Asian fine artists who incorporate pop culture into their work, such as David Heo and Hun Kyu Kim, who work in illustrative styles with elements of folklore and fantasy. One of his biggest inspirations, So Youn Lee, is noted for her beautiful pastel rainbow work in a charming style.
