James Rose was born in the Hudson River Valley of New York State; he then studied art at the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. At age 23, James moved to San Francisco, working there for 11 years as a nightclub bartender. In 2008, James moved to NYC to be a painter. He spent his first few years in Manhattan bartending at cocktail bars, making art and getting into group shows around the city. In 2012 he moved to south Brooklyn and obtained an art studio in the Chashama Studio Program from 2016 to 2026. James earned an MA at Brooklyn College and got a job as an art teacher in Uptown Manha...

These are some of the paintings I have made in my studio in Brooklyn. There are two main themes I have focused on the past few years. One is the nature I experience in and around New York. The other is the New York Harbor, of which my studio building is situated right on the waterfront.
